    ACADEMY INFORMATION & SUMMARY

The Oakmont Dual Language Academy allows students to develop proficiency in two languages by receiving academic instruction in English and Spanish. Our Dual Language classes are comprised of half English speakers and half Spanish speakers. Through social and academic interaction, all students in the dual language program learn to read, write, listen and speak in both languages equally well. Students also gain a rich appreciation of other cultures. Teachers use Gomez and Gomez DLE model of instruction. For more information, please visit the following website: Dual Language Training Institute.

Children are taught to read and write in their native language through the end of first grade. Beginning in second grade students are also taught to read and write in their second language. Math is always taught in English. Science and Social Studies is always taught in Spanish. Students are immersed in both languages by language of the day which means that directions and conversations in the classroom will be in one language or the other based on what day it is. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the language for conversations through the day is Spanish. Tuesday and Thursday the language is English.

All dual language instruction is challenging, interactive, and authentic.
Students work as bilingual partners to support each other in language acquisition and concept understanding.

As life in the 21st century grows increasingly interconnected across cultures, countries, and continents, an education in a second language will equip our children to engage their world both personally and professionally. The Dual Language Academy at Oakmont provides our students with the foundation to become effective global citizens.
