• Uniforms: Students will follow the CISD dress code in all aspects with the exception of polo shirts. Students will have specific STEM Academy polo shirts. Monday- Thursday students will wear the STEM Academy polo shirt. Fridays are designated as school spirit days. Students may either wear a Summer Creek shirt from a club, sport, or organization they are involved with such as AVID, cheer, band and all sports. Students may also elect to wear the STEM Academy spirit t-shirt, a SC Colts spirit shirt, or the STEM polo shirt. STEM Academy students will also be allowed to wear college t-shirts on report card days to promote our culture of high expectations and as a reminder to our students that they laying the foundation for their future right now and as a reminder to our teachers they are here to ensure all students are receiving a college preparatory education.

    Unique Electives: All students are allowed to choose their electives at Summer Creek. All 8th grade STEM students are required to Gateway to Technology classes. Project Lead the Way Gateway classes provide engineering, biomedical, and computer science based curriculum for middle school students that challenges, inspires, and offers relevant experiences through activities and project and problem based learning. Students use technology to solve problems while gaining skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.

    Elective Choices: All STEM students at Summer Creek are allowed to choose their electives. 7th grade students choose between PE or athletics and then choose any two from a wide array of offerings. 8th grade STEM students choose which Gateway to Technology classes they want and then choose any two other electives.

    Extracurricular Offerings: All STEM students are allowed to participate in fine arts. Band, choir, and theater are all offered and available for students to select. STEM students can choose to participate in sports at Summer Creek. Sports offered are football, volleyball, cross country, tennis, basketball, and track. Academic UIL is open to all STEM students.

    Transportation: Bus transportation will be provided for all STEM students except for students that reside within 2 miles of the school.

    Fees: There are no fees associated with the STEM Academy at Summer Creek other than polo uniform tops which must be purchased through the campus.

    Community Service: Students are required to complete 10 hours of community service per year. The STEM Academy will schedule activities at a local food pantry, the Cowtown marathon, the Cowtown cleanup, and will host parties for our special need students. STEM students will also host an Easter Egg hunt, blessing baskets, and Christmas crafts.

    Parental Involvement: One fundraiser per year is required. Parents must participate in two parent experiences per year which can include guest speakers, field trip chaperones, or supervise community service.

    Application Process: Students will apply for admission in the spring semester. They will receive approval in the late spring.

    Waiting List: If the program becomes full students will be added to a waiting list. Students will be moved to the program if opening occur.
