Place 2 Trustee Thedrick Franklin has served on the school board for more than three years, but his involvement in Crowley ISD began more than 20 years ago when his three children attended Crowley schools.
Franklin said he serves on the Board of Trustees to create policies, set goals and maintain a budget as well as to provide teachers with the tools to help the district improve student performance on state testing measurements, improve college and career readiness and prepare students to successfully enter the workforce.
He wants Crowley ISD to be a district of choice and to achieve academic excellence.
A college professor and businessman, Franklin has a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Louisiana Tech University and a Bachelor of Science degree in math and physics from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He worked as an adjunct professor in the Mathematics Department at Tarrant County College for 15 years and has more than 28 years of business experience, which includes engineering management at Motorola Solutions and system engineering at Lockheed Martin.
Franklin and his wife Luwanda’s three children — Jennifer, T.J. and Jessica — graduated from Crowley ISD schools. They have two grandchildren, one of whom also attends elementary school in Crowley ISD.
Franklin also served on the District Wide Educational Improvement Council (DWEIC) for three years.
“I think public education is important because it educates every child regardless of economic status or disability, thus creating leaders who influence the advancement of our society,” he said.
FUN FACT: Franklin attended college on a music scholarship as a percussionist and is currently a percussionist at a local church.
